I’m not usually too big on reflecting around New Year’s, and I never seem to get around to making (or maybe just remembering?) personal resolutions. However, with the house in a constant state of craziness due to various projects, and still looking like very little has even changed, I think it’s important to consider what we’ve accomplished so far. I’ve also hit the six-month mark of homeownership this week (not that it’s typically a significant mark, but I guess I’m going to make it one). For my own benefit and sanity, I put together a list of what we’ve done to the house so far (of course, almost a third of this list was hired out to pros, since we’re DIY noobs).
Another very important event in 2012 – the cats moved in! Both my sister’s cat (L, the fatty who looks uncharacteristically small in the background) and mine (little Siamese Akira) moved from our parents’ house in the Midwest to join us here in the desert. As a result, you can expect some ugly cat trees when we get around to decorating.
The kitchen is a funny room for me. Because our first big DIY project (removing the soffit) took place in the kitchen, I always feel like it’s made a lot of progress. However, in many ways the kitchen looks worse than when we started. In my heart, I know that progress is being made (!!) and I have a very defined image of what the kitchen will look like when we’re done. Let’s just say we have a lot of work ahead of us.
I swear there is progress somewhere in this next photo…
Of course, we still have a lot to do. We even have a lot of items left over from our very first “to do” list, which I made up before we even got the keys to the house. I know these lists are pretty tedious (read: boring), they’re more for me to get a gage on things.
And I’ll end this post with some of the projects I’m working on now. Below are some wire shelves we cut at Home Depot, which I’ll be installing in what was the coat closet (soon to be utility closet) within the next few days.
And our new doors are hung, so it’s time to figure out how to work my paint sprayer and paint ’em BLACK (yay).
Hope you all had a very happy holiday season, and thanks for joining us in 2012 :).
